What Is the Difference Between Triathlon and Ironman?

Triathlon became an Olympic sport in 2000. Triathlon made its first appearance as an Olympic sport at the Sydney Olympics. Out of 100 participants,48 were women and 52 were men. The sport is also known as Standard/Olympic Triathlon. The event occurs after every four years.

The first triathlon race happened in 1974 in San Diego. Eleven years earlier from becoming an Olympic sport, it received Olympic status. It made the triathlon a centerpiece for the viewers. The single event covering three sports was quite impressive. Triathlon was the only sport to receive this recognition before time.

In 1989, the International Olympic Committee decided to grant triathlon financial support. This was to increase the popularity and participation of this sport. Eventually, triathlon is now an international sport played in Olympics.
